O'TAY CARE GUIDE

For many years, the fashion industry has contributed to a buy-and-throw-away culture that makes the lifespan of our clothes unnecessarily short. That short lifespan comes down to fashion being in constant change, which means the demands on the quality of the clothes are lowered. The result is often that garments are washed to pieces before they are ever worn out through use.

O'TAY wants to contribute to a more responsible wardrobe. We believe that the most responsible clothing you can buy is the clothing you end up wearing out. That is exactly why quality, long-lasting materials and timeless design are part of O'TAY's DNA. It also means your clothes can stay with you for many years with the right care.

WASHING GUIDE

Cashmere and wool are naturally self-cleaning, which means you can wash them less often with a clear conscience. It is good for both your clothes and the environment. If you wash too frequently, you risk washing out the fit and weakening the fibres. In this guide you will find our best advice on how to wash your O'TAY cashmere and wool in the machine*.

Before you get started, it is important to know your washing machine well. If this is the first time you are washing cashmere or wool, we recommend trying it out on a few styles you are less attached to. It would be a shame to ruin your favourites in a machine that is too rough on them.

HOW TO WASH:

  • Start by brushing the pilling off the garment
  • Then sort by colour
  • Turn the garment inside out
  • Protect it by placing it in a laundry bag
  • Use a detergent made for cashmere/wool
  • Wash on a wool/silk programme, max. 30 °C and 600 spin

AFTER WASHING:

  • Smooth the garment out so it regains its original fit
  • Leave it to dry flat on an even surface, ideally on a towel
  • The garment must be completely dry before it is folded
  • Store it in the dark if possible
  • Protect your garments from moths
  • Take care of your garments regularly

ALTERNATIVES TO WASHING

GIVE IT AIR

Hanging your cashmere and wool outside to air is well worth it. It boosts the self-cleaning properties, freshens the garment and reduces unwanted odours. You can also air the garment in the shower after you have showered. The moisture makes the fibres swell back to their natural structure.

STEAM, STEAM, STEAM

If you prefer a quicker solution, you can use a garment steamer. It has the same effect as airing the garment. The steam makes the fibres swell and restores their natural structure. It will also reduce creases and bacteria.

SPRAY INSTEAD OF WASHING

If you find yourself missing the scent of freshly washed clothes, you can use a refreshing spray. We have two variants, and both freshen the garment and remove unwanted odours while giving the feel and scent of a fresh wash.

DEAL WITH THE ACCIDENT QUICKLY

Got a stain on your garment? Then the best advice has to be to remove it as quickly as possible. By treating only the affected spot, you save the garment from a full wash. But be careful with harsh stain removers, try gently with a colour- and fragrance-free soap.

PRODUCTS

Your knitwear lasts longer when you make a point of looking after it. That goes for every quality, all types of wool benefit from it. So we have gathered our four favourites for taking care of your O'TAY cashmere and wool styles.

01 - COMB & BALLS

If we had to choose two products that are indispensable for caring for your cashmere, it would without doubt be our Cashmere Comb and Cedar Balls. These two simple care products make a perfect duo, so you can always look after your cashmere, even on the go.

WHY USE THE COMB AND BALLS?

The right care is essential to preserving the luxurious softness and long life of your cashmere. O'TAY's Cashmere Comb and Cedar Balls are created for exactly that purpose, to make maintenance simple, gentle and effective in everyday life.

02 - SHAMPOO

One care product we swear by is our exclusive Cashmere & Wool Shampoo. It comes in two variants, scented and unscented. The detergent contains silk extract and is therefore particularly suited to your knitwear, as the extract helps keep it soft and supple. It can be used for both hand washing and machine washing.

WHY USE A SPECIAL DETERGENT?

The detergent is gentle on natural fibres such as cashmere and wool, which makes it particularly suited to your O'TAY styles. It is a pH-neutral detergent that cleans the garment thoroughly and removes odours and dirt, while preserving the lanolin in the wool so your garments stay supple and soft for longer.

03 - LAUNDRY BAGS

Worried that your favourite knit will lose its shape or snag in the wash? Then you need our Laundry Bags. They protect your cashmere from friction and wear in the machine, so your knitwear keeps its softness and shape, wash after wash. A small effort that extends the life of your cashmere.

WHY ARE LAUNDRY BAGS NECESSARY?

Our Laundry Bags are designed to protect your knitwear when you wash it. The fine mesh bags prevent your cashmere from being exposed to friction, pulling and wear from everything else in the machine. The material lets water and detergent through, so your knitwear still gets completely clean, just more gently. A simple but indispensable way to extend the life of your favourite styles. Easy and gentle.

04 - SPRAY

After wearing your knitwear a few times, it can feel like it needs a wash, we know the feeling. But we recommend stretching the time between washes a little longer, to take good care of it. That is easy to do with either Freshen Up or Moth Spray.

WHY USE A REFRESHING SPRAY?

Our two sprays are the tool you cannot do without in a busy everyday life. One refreshes your knitwear so you can stretch the time between washes. The other helps prevent moth damage. Whichever spray you use, you protect both your garments and the environment from unnecessary trips through the washing machine.
